Understanding our fees
Your partner in every legal step
Your first contact with us is without obligation. In a first telephone conversation, or when responding to enquiries by email, or to you in person at our office, we will try and identify your requirements and explain if we can help, what the next steps would be and whether there will be any charge made for taking those further steps.
On this page:
Transparent pricing, tailored to you
Our purpose at first contact is to identify what services you require and not to provide legal advice. Some enquiries may be responded to by non-lawyers on our team who will wish to put you in the hands of a suitable lawyer to help with your specific enquiry.
If you already know that you want a specific service, such as our help to buy or sell a house we can almost always provide you with a prompt quotation for the expected fee. You can get a conveyancing quote now using our online conveyancing calculator. For wills and similar services we can outline our range of fixed fees and you may want to receive our advice on the type of future service you require. Most work can be undertaken on the basis of fees agreed with you in advance, for specific steps or charged at an hourly rate as you decide.
At first contact, some enquiries we receive about legal disputes may be responded to on behalf of Thomson & Bancks by staff working at one of our offices at a different location. This is so that we can reply to you promptly, especially if we need more information before we can arrange for you to receive advice.
You are in control. We will do work to the value you agree and you can pay as you go. If there is a risk of paying more we will explain. We know that nobody wants to face hidden fees and it is important to us that there is no mystery or embarrassment about the charges that we make.
‘You Matter to Us’ and we would expect no less of a commitment if we were the clients and we were instructing Solicitors.
Call now or fill in our enquiry form and our staff will direct you to one of our team to enable us to get the flavour of your enquiry and to suggest how we can help you go forward.

Legal services
for Individuals
For the individual we are able to help with legal issues surrounding the buying and selling of your home, the preparation of Wills (including inheritance tax planning), and powers of attorney. We also advise on the creation and management of trusts and can offer an understanding and efficient service upon the loss of a loved one by helping with the administration of their estate.
We assist with family law problems and divorce with the same careful consideration. We always seek to be firm and fair when promoting your wishes and will be frank with you as to the risks and possibilities that you may face.
Legal services
for Businesses
For the business client we can help you deal with legal matters such as buying and selling a business, employment law, commercial property and disputes. Partnerships and Companies that are owned and run by industrious people will seek us out because we are not a faceless and nameless call centre delivering robotic advice, but we have local, trusted and dedicated people who identify themselves and are accountable for the advice and service that we provide.
