Publication of prices
Your partner in every legal step
Transparency Rules in force from December 2018 oblige Solicitors to publish prices for specific types of work only. There have been times in the past when professional rules would have prevented Solicitors from advertising themselves, let alone publishing their prices, but in a modern age the Solicitors Regulation Authority requires that pricing information is available to you on our website, which we are very happy to provide.
The guidance here applies to work beginning in 2019 and does not apply to work done in earlier years for which prices and arrangements were not necessarily the same. The headings below are for those specific types of work for which pricing information is required to be published.
Please select the applicable heading for the information listed.

Information on our terms of business and the prices we charge.
Thomson & Bancks has always been committed to setting out for all clients, a personal explanation of how we charge for the work we do. The general information on this website is indicative of how we charge, but special arrangements will be agreed with particular clients. Our agreeing to act for a client requires identification, terms of business and client care letters as explained below.
Identification
All of our clients must meet certain standards of identification and verification at the point at which we agree to accept instructions to carry out work. This is in order to comply with our obligations in law, and to protect the integrity of the identity of any individual or business added to our database. As appropriate we must be able to report to a lender, or to the courts, a government agency or a third party, that where we say that we are acting for a client there has been due diligence to verify that this is true.
Our Terms of Business document
Clients are issued with a Client Care Contract which sets out the contractual terms that Thomson & Bancks has introduced detailing identification requirements for our clients, the way in which we do work, the charges we make and many surrounding details about the rights of clients, our commitments as Solicitors, and information about insurance and the limits on our liability. The Client Care Contract is amended from time to time because the law changes and how we deliver our services will evolve with time. Information about how to complain if you are unhappy with the service you receive can be viewed here. Clients are kindly asked to sign and return to us an acceptance of our terms of business, without which we will usually be unable to act.
Client Care letters
All clients will receive a client care letter when we agree to work on a new matter. The letter is usually accompanied by the Client Care Contract. In particular, the letter highlights the matter to be dealt with, who will be doing the work, how it will be charged for and guidance on the expected time and cost so far as can be said. The way we charge is different for different types of work.
